Refuge: a short story

I woke up on March 2 with a big chunk of story in my head. Who even knows where this stuff comes from. I knew from the get-go that this would not be a full-length novel, or even a novella. So what we have here is my first short story since I was ten.

Three key things about REFUGE:

  1. It’s set in 2012, which isn’t super important for story details but will help place it in the story-universe timeline;

  2. It features a brand-new character (property developer Jack Norton) along with one who’s been merely part of a workplace setting for other things (real-estate attorney Tom Hammond);

  3. It involves a homeless Vietnam veteran who is dying.

Knowing those things, you can decide if you want to click the button below for a free read. This, like everything else I’ve written, is a love story; it’s also sad.
