Three key things about PROOFED:
The main characters are Dominic Wynn (a bookshop owner / editor) and Louie Pistache (a cafe owner / baker); they have worked across the street from each other for going on nine years when the story begins.
This is a low-conflict story set in 2015, with moderate angst mostly on Dominic’s side - he’s just lost his mother and has some hang-ups from past relationships.
I’ve been trying to come up with the right story for that adorable photo for nearly a year.

I started writing this novella partly because of that wake-up-call of a scene, and partly because of novel fatigue - I wanted a project I could finish fast. As it happened, I ended up writing an unrelated short story in the middle of writing this. And then I needed to complete a good 75% of the novella before I knew enough about Dominic and Louie to finish it. But it’s done!
